Lucerne

Today, I discovered my favorite European city so far.

Lucerne, Switzerland is located on a lake in the middle of the country. It’s surrounded by mountains and has tiny little cobblestone streets with all kinds of adorable shops, buildings, and restaurants.

We took the train from Zurich this morning,

and explored the city. The first hour was spent literally just looking around in awe and taking a million pictures because the views were unlike any we had seen before. SO gorgeous. SO Swiss.

We shopped a bit and mingled with the town folk, then headed to lunch at a hole in the wall beer hall. These are the best restaurant to try in any city…where the locals go. Many restaurants and bars in Switzerland brew their own beer. The beer halls here kind of look like cafeterias, with lots of long skinny tables that you sit at.

The restaurant!

To my delgith, the food was DELISH! I got the veggie plate with a fried egg. It was all sautéed in oil, which made it that much better.

We toured around some gigantic, ornate churches then headed to Meggen (just outside of Lucerne) to view the castles there.

Saw these things along the journey...

Old school confession box!

However, our adventure took an unfortunate turn when Carrie, Christina and I went to the bathroom at the train station, only to be left by the bus.

The bus had the rest of our group on it.

Oops.

We had no idea where they had gone and thought for sure they wouldn’t have left us. Then, we got a text saying the bus had left without us and we hopped on the next bus to Meggen. No one on the bus realized it was moving until it was too late (and the Swiss will NOT stop their route for you).

After catching our group at a stop further down the route, we attempted to find these castles, which proved to be impossible. I SWEAR the entire town was in on it. We got told about 10 very different directions and instructions on how to get there, and in the end, none of them worked!

Two hours wasted. Boo.

Although, we did have more than a few good laughs about how ridiculous it was getting. Oh the joys of exploring a foreign country.

Back at the hotel, we were desperate for a simple dinner and movie night.

Carrot ginger soup, club, and Jackie got choco cake!

After we paid 22 bucks to watch Bridesmaids and 60 bucks for room service, (totally worth it by the way) we passed out!!

Need the sleep since tomorrow is skiing day!!!!
